BROOKLYN - Flames forced some Bed-Stuy residents from their beds early this morning.

More than 40 firefighters responded to the fire in a third-floor apartment on Bedford Avenue at around 6 a.m.

Officials say it appears the blaze was sparked by a heater that engulfed a nearby mattress.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
