BROOKLYN - The brat-eating and beer-drinking that comes with the German tradition of Oktoberfest has come to a close, but beer-lovers gathered today in Williamsburg for a new tradition called Alt-tober fest.

It's short for Alternative Oktoberfest, and it involved tasty barbecue, craft beers and other festivities. Some of the fun involved dancing and stein-hoisting competitions, where participants had to hold up pitchers of beer for as long as they could.

Organizers say that today's event was such a hit, they hope to make it an annual tradition.
