FLATBUSH - Members of the Haitian community in Brooklyn say they are concerned about a potentially devastating storm bearing down on their homeland. A U.S. Navy vessel, the amphibious warfare ship Iwo Jima, began steaming toward the island-nation today to provide disaster relief in case Tropical Storm Tomas strikes late in the week as forecast, possibly as a Category 2 hurricane. Haiti continues to suffer from a devastating earthquake that struck in January and killed hundreds of thousands of people. AP wire services were used in this report.
