BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn resident is making a difference by assisting the community and the police.

Leslie Lewis, 88, has been serving as president of the 84th Precinct Community Council since the 1980s. Lewis listens to concerns from the community then communicates them to police so that they can investigate. Additionally, Lewis serves as the criminal justice liaison to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Lewis says he got into law enforcement accidentally when he moved to Downtown Brooklyn. He says that he realized there was a lot of crime in the area, and he wanted to do something about it.

Congress has recognized Lewis for his service with police and the community. Lewis says that he is proud of his legacy.

"When you look down the track, you see some stuff that you did that you're proud of and that's very important," said Lewis.
