BROOKLYN - The trash you've been throwing away may have been a piece of treasure to one Brooklyn artist.

Jennifer Maravillas created a map of the borough. At first glance, it might appear to be a typical map, but a closer look will reveal that the map is made completely out of garbage.

News 12 first met Maravillas back in 2012 as she scoured the streets for discarded items. Now after three years of collecting and piecing together, her creation is complete.

Everything picked up in each diverse neighborhood is actually used to represent that specific area on Maravillas's map.

"Mapping Brooklyn" is on display at BRIC in Downtown Brooklyn through May 3
