PARK SLOPE - North Slope Veterinary has been working with a nonprofit called the U.S. War Dog Association to deliver gifts to canines in the military.

There are over 3,000 dogs serving with the U.S. Armed Forces that put their lives on the line leading patrols, detecting bombs and helping to save human lives.

For the past few weeks, Dr. Christopher Gaylord, owner of North Slope Veterinary, has been helping collect blankets, food, and toys for our military canines as a "thank you" during this holiday season.

Dog owners in Park Slope agreed that this was a wonderful idea and visited the clinic today to say thanks to the canine unit of the armed forces. Brooklyn residents have been donating rubber dog bowls, water dishes and paw towels for the dogs.

The last day to donate items is Tuesday, Dec. 15. North Slope aims to ship everything out to Iraq by the end of the week.
