BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's reigning Cub Scout Pinewood Derby champion is preparing to face off in this year's world championship.

Lerrod "Roddy" Smalls is just 7 years old, but has come in first or second place in the borough in each of the last three years.

More than 200 Cub Scouts will be competing in the first ever World Championship Pinewood Derby in Time Square this week.

In the Pinewood Derby, scouts craft cars from 7-inch blocks of pine wood. The tradition dates back to the 1950s.
