BROOKLYN - A bicyclist has been killed after being hit by a freight truck at the intersection of Metropolitan and Gardner avenues this morning in Williamsburg.

According to police, the delivery truck hit the bicyclist, who cut in front of the truck as it was turning onto Gardner Avenue at around 9 a.m. The cyclist, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents say the intersection is busy and dangerous, especially because there are no bike lanes. They say this incident is unfortunately not the first one.

Authorities say the truck driver stayed on the scene before being taken to Wyckoff Hospital with minor injuries. They say he is not being charged.
