BROOKLYN - A man died Wednesday after being hit by a box truck while riding his bike.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Avenue U and East 9th Street. The 54-year-old man was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. 

Police say the truck driver and cyclist were both traveling westbound on Avenue U and collided at the intersection. A search is underway for the driver in a 2006 Econoline box truck with Indiana plates. 

Police say the truck driver left the scene without possibly realizing what happened.
