Bike-riding thief targets Coney Island area

CONEY ISLAND - Police are asking for the public to be on the lookout for a bike-riding thief targeting the Coney Island area.

According to police, six robberies occurred between July 3 and August 13.

Police say the youngest victim is 63 and the oldest is 81.  They say each time the thief rode up to them on his bike before removing their jewelry.

A majority of the robberies took place during the day, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. -- three of them on the boardwalk.

Police are asking people to be extra aware of their surroundings.

Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
