Biker struck by SUV on Marcy Avenue

BED-STUY - Authorities say a bike rider from Brooklyn was hospitalized after an SUV drove onto the curb and slammed into him today.

Police say the cyclist was hit near Marcy and Willoughby avenues. Witnesses said they saw the SUV run a red light, jump the curb and hit the cyclist, throwing him into the subway grate.

The driver did not leave the scene and was not arrested, according to police. The bike rider sustained minor injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Residents say that drivers treat the area like a race track and want more police presence to crack down on speeders.
