BK barber shops offer free health screenings

BROOKLYN - Barber shops all across Brooklyn offered customers more than just haircuts on Saturday.

As part of the Black Barbershop Health Outreach program, customers got free blood pressure screenings along with their trims. Men with high blood pressure were encouraged to visit a doctor.

Dr. Bill Releford, founder of the program, says the barbershop atmosphere allows men to be relaxed and more open to talking about their health. He said more than 2,000 men in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx were screened this Saturday.
