BK-based NYPD officers head out on Haiti mission

BROOKLYN - Seven months after a devastating earthquake, Haiti will soon be getting needed assistance from six Brooklyn-based NYPD officers and detectives.

Four of the officers were born and raised in Haiti, and all have strong ties to the island-nation. The officers will spend three months in Haiti as part of a mission with the State Department. More than 30 officers across the U.S. volunteered for the mission.

Officials say there are fewer than 10,000 police officers in Haiti, which has a population of 10 million.
