BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn uniform manufacturer, hurt by the loss of a military contract, laid off 157 of its 205 workers.

The company, R.J. American, had been in contract to manufacture U.S. military uniforms, but the deal did not work out as planned. The division was formed two and a half years ago as a for-profit subsidiary of New York City Industries for the Blind.

None of the 157 workers laid off are blind.
