BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn native known for coaching in the NBA has been named the new head coach at Southern Methodist University in Texas.

Larry Brown will lend his experience to the SMU team, which recently moved into the Big East. It will be Brown's first return to the NCAA since coaching in Kansas in 1988.

The 71-year-old Basketball Hall of Fame inductee is the only coach to win both NBA and NCAA titles.
