PARK SLOPE - In the wake of the Newtown, Conn. massacre, Brooklyn residents and officials have mixed feelings on the National Rifle Association's (NRA) call to put armed police officers in every school across the country.

"America doesn't want to answer this with armed voluntary guards," said City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn).

Some parents outside a Park Slope elementary school agreed, but others thought the suggestion was a good idea.

"I think it's more of a protection," said Saroya Owens. "There should be no fear in having armed guards in the school."

In a statement, New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott called the NRA's idea "wrong," saying New York City schools are the safest they've been in a decade.
