CONEY ISLAND - Brooklyn residents flocked to Coney Island today in droves to mark the beginning of the beach season.

Today is the first day that lifeguards are patrolling the beaches, keeping swimmers safe.

Residents also came out to take a ride on the Cyclone or grab their first Nathan's hot dog of the summer season.

Those who came out today say they are glad that the weather has been so nice for the first day of the beach season.
