CONEY ISLAND - An ice skating rink on the Coney Island boardwalk opened its doors to let children have some free wintry fun this morning.
The Abe Stark Skating Rink, located on the boardwalk near West 19th Street in Coney Island, offered free ice skating for children through noon today. The event was sponsored by the New York City Parks Department, Councilman Domenic Recchia (D-Brooklyn), other elected officials and the skating rink itself.
Organizers say they wanted to give children a chance to have fun during their winter break. The rink says it will likely offer more free skating in February.
