BROOKLYN - More than 500 school aides spent their last day on the job Friday after being laid off by the Department of Education.
Linda Vega, an aide at P.S. 298, is one of 530 school aides in the city to lose their jobs to budget cuts. Teachers, parents, and students are sad to see her go, saying aides are critical for students' success and the teachers' ability to prepare.
The aides' union, District Council 27, says it is pursuing a lawsuit to get the jobs back.
