BROOKLYN - Many shoppers throughout the borough say they're hoping to save big today as they take advantage of Columbus Day sales.

With government offices and public schools closed for the holiday, several major retailers are slashing prices up to 75 percent.

Other Brooklyn residents will be heading to Manhattan this afternoon for the Columbus Day Parade on 5th Avenue.
