BK soldier in Iraq dies same day his fiancee gets engagement ring in the mail

BROOKLYN - Brooklyn residents are mourning the loss of another fallen soldier in Iraq from the borough.Twenty-four-year-old Yevgeniy Ryndych died December 6 from injuries suffered when a bomb detonated near his unit on patrol. It was the same day his fiancee received an engagement ring from him in the mail. Ryndych's brother Ivan said the soldier had called his girlfriend and proposed over the phone before buying a ring online.Yevgeniy Ryndych was born in Ukraine and grew up in Bensonhurt. He attended Lafayette High School. His family said he always wanted to join the military and used to read strategy books and play war games.He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. He had volunteered to rejoin his old unit because he didn't "want to leave them behind."
