BROOKLYN - Some Brooklyn parents have reportedly been on edge since the city announced in September it is changing the entrance exam for its gifted programs.
According to the Daily News, the Department of Education will be mailing out booklets with sample test questions to put parents? and students? minds at ease. The city will now use a single exam for all 137 gifted programs across the five boroughs. Before this change, each district had a different exam for its program.
Education officials say the single exam will give every student a fair chance to demonstrate their ability. According to the head of the Department of Gifted/Talented & Enrichment, the sample questions are designed to relieve pressure. Applications for the exam are available at all city schools and regional offices. Students will be tested in December and January.
