GRAVESEND - Hundreds of students in Gravesend walked out of class today to protest the possible closure of John Dewey High School. The students are calling on the Department of Education to keep their school open and scrap plans to replace it. John Dewey was placed on an under-performing list in 2009 for consistently generating low test scores. If a new school takes over, city officials say they will incorporate ideas from a plan made by John Dewey's faculty.
