BK teen swimmer missing off Long Island

LONG BEACH - A 19-year-old swimmer went missing in the rough surf off Long Beach this afternoon.

Beachgoer Helen Lien says she is among a group of about 20 college students from Brooklyn who spent the day in Long Beach. She says three members of the group got caught in the surf at around 2 p.m.

Rescuers were able to pull two of the swimmers out of the water, but not the third, an 19-year-old male. Officials turned the rescue mission into a recovery mission at around 3 p.m.

According to Long Beach Fire Chief Scott Kemins, the last time the teen was seen, he was floating face down in the water.

The teen has not been found.
