EAST WILLIAMSBURG - Twenty-four warehouse workers from East Williamsburg and Bushwick claim they were recently fired from their jobs for joining a union.

The workers and their new union, Industrial Workers of the World, say they will picket outside the warehouses until they get their jobs back. Union representatives say Handy Fat is one company that fired workers illegally and owes more than $100,000 in back pay.

Workers say management told them they were getting fired because they didn?t have immigration papers. However, they doubt that explanation because some of them have been working for more than 10 years. The owners of the warehouses had no comment on the issue.
