BK woman mowed down by ambulance

BROOKLYN - An elderly woman was struck and killed by an ambulance while crossing the street in Bensonhurst Tuesday.

According to authorities, the emergency vehicle was transporting a patient to the hospital when it plowed into a woman in her 70s near the Belt Parkway ramp at Bay Parkway.

The victim suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The patient aboard the vehicle was taken to Lutheran Medical Center in stable condition.

Police say at the time of the accident, the ambulance did not have lights or sirens on.

Officials say no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the accident.
