Black, Bloomberg visit P.S. 109 in the Bronx

BROOKLYN - Schools Chancellor Cathie Black and Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited P.S. 109 on Popham Avenue today.

Black was recently granted a waiver by the state education commissioner to assume a hotly debated post as schools chancellor.

She was presented with the waiver after Bloomberg appointed Shael Polakow-Suransky to be her deputy chancellor. Polakow-Suransky is a former math teacher and principal currently in charge of testing.

Polakow-Suransky has close ties to the Bronx. He founded Bronx International High School for at-risk students early in his tenure.
