Bloomberg announces plan for NYC waterfronts

BROOKLYN - Officials announced their vision for New York City?s 578 miles of waterfront today after recent city takeovers of Brooklyn Bridge Park and Governors Island.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Speaker Christine Quinn and other officials launched the Waterfront Vision and Enhancement Strategy (WAVES). The plan will focus on creating recreational areas, attracting new business and housing as well as sustainability.

A series of public workshops in all five boroughs to discuss the waterfront strategy will begin this spring.
