Bluetooth ban begins for TLC drivers

BROOKLYN - New rules from the City Taxi and Limousine Commission state livery cab drivers are not allowed to use Bluetooth devices or any personal electronics while on the job.

The rules, which went into effect Friday, are aimed at cutting down on distracted driving, but many drivers feel banning Bluetooth devices is going too far. Using hands free and hand-held cell phones is already banned by the commission.

If drivers break the rules, they will be fined $200 and given three penalty points. Three violations within a 15-month period can lead to a license being revoked.

Passengers who notice drivers breaking the rules can write down the medallion and call 311 or the TLC at 212-227-6324.
