CONEY ISLAND - A section of the Coney Island boardwalk that was closed on the Fourth of July due to demolition work on the Astrotower was reopened today.

Crews worked to chop down a large portion of the iconic tower that forced two amusement parks and a section of the boardwalk to shut down. Local business owners and workers say they are hopeful the long weekend will bring a strong turnout to the parks.

The Wonder Wheel and Cyclone rollercoaster are also back to their regular schedules.

A spokesman for Luna Park said that he was not sure whether the Astrotower would be completely demolished or destroyed.
