Boerum Hill residents bark at possible dog park plans

BOERUM HILL - Parents in Boerum Hill say they are concerned that the city will renovate a nearby playground and turn it into a dog park. New York City Department of Parks and Recreation officials say they have plans to replace equipment at the Nicholas Heywood Playground thanks to a $550,000 budget allocation. The proposal reportedly calls for a more spacious layout. "For me, it would be nice to see more grass and more of an open environment where it's more inviting and not as segregated from the street," says resident Paul Rivera. Current outlines do not include a dog run, but officials say the plans could change before construction begins next summer.
