BROOKLYN - Book enthusiasts of all ages are trying to save the New York Public Library system from steep budget cuts of more than 30 percent.

Library administrators and students from P.S. 39 today wrapped around the library today to show how important the institution is in their community.

If the current budget gets approved, library officials say they would be forced to close branches and reduce hours at the ones that remain open.

The City Council will vote on the city's budget by June 5.
