BUSHWICK - Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say a boy about 6 years old was rushed to the hospital after his foot got caught in an escalator Tuesday.

The boy was riding the down escalator at the Broadway Junction subway station when his shoe got stuck. Officials say he wriggled out of the shoe and was taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries.

To prevent escalator-related injuries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission suggests that riders remain aware of shoelaces, drawstrings, scarves and mittens while riding escalators. The commission says parents should also hold children's hands and all riders should always face forward.
