Boy killed, mom hurt by bus in Manhattan Beach

BROOKLYN - A 4-year-old boy died and his mother was injured after being hit by an MTA bus in Manhattan Beach yesterday.

Police say Evan Svirsky was running from a playground on Oriental Boulevard across the road to Falmouth Street when his mother saw the bus approaching. She ran out to try and stop traffic, but the bus driver didn't see them in time, authorities say.

The boy's mother was clipped by the side mirror, while the 4-year-old was hit by the front of the bus.

The child was rushed to nearby Coney Island Hospital, where he later died. His 45-year-old mother was taken to Lutheran Medical Center with head trauma, and is expected to recover.

No charges are expected to be filed in connection to the accident.
