BROOKLYN - A frantic situation unfolded in Williamsburg Thursday night, when a child got stuck in a metal roll-up gate.

Neighbors say the child that got stuck is a boy around 7 or 8 years old. They say his arm got trapped in a metal gate as it was rising up, suspending him in the air.

Emergency crews responded to the location at 49 Skillman St. just before 6:15 p.m. The fire department says it had to use the Jaws of Life and airbags to get the child out. This happened outside an apartment building in an ultra-orthodox part of Williamsburg. One witness says the child was stuck for about 15 minutes, screaming frantically as he hung in the air.

Fire officials are still unsure how the child's arm got stuck in the first place.

The boy was transported to Bellevue Hospital.
