BROOKLYN - Local Boy and Cub Scouts are taking advantage of the several inches of snow still lingering throughout the borough.

Despite the freezing weather, dozens of Scouts showed up to participate in the Klondike Derby, a friendly sledding competition held in Coney Island.

Some of the Scouts told News 12 that Boy Scouts always work together, and that it's not just about winning.

One Scout leader says the event has been going since he was a young child, going back to the 70s. He says the tradition will continue to take place in Coney Island for many years to come.
