BROOKLYN - In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a local survivors club received quite a surprise from Kings County Hospital.

Members of the cancer support group, Gilda’s Club, thought they were attending a regularly scheduled meeting, when they were surprised by a performance from the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. Food at the event was donated by Panera Bread.

The support group, named for comedian Gilda Radner, serves as a safe place for women to discuss their treatment and how it affects them and their families.

A doctor at Kings County recommends that women get annual mammograms and self-check on a regular basis.
