Breukelen Houses residents call out city over crumbling ceilings

(08/19/10) CANARSIE - Residents of the Breukelen Houses in Canarsie are blasting the Housing Authority over what they call the horrible conditions of their ceilings.

Residents say they have notified the Housing Authority several times, but that nothing has been done. Residents say their ceilings are riddled with holes and their homes and furniture are being damaged by rain.

One woman said she had to take her baby to the hospital after the ceiling collapsed right into the crib. She claims the Housing Authority did fix her ceiling in one spot following that incident, but holes have now started to appear in other areas.

One resident says a Housing Authority representative claimed someone would get to her home by July 2012.
