BROOKLYN - Many Brighton Beach residents had their bags packed and ready to go today as they prepare to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Irene.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a mandatory evacuation order for low-lying "Zone A" communities, including Brighton Beach, by 5 p.m. Saturday.

However, with beautiful, deceiving weather Friday, some beachgoers were in no rush to head out and instead spent the day enjoying the calm before the storm.
