Bronx clinic using iris scans for records

THE BRONX - A Southern Boulevard medical clinic has begun using iris scans to organize patient information without timely paperwork.

The biometrics equipment called SafeMatch scans patients' eyes when they arrive and immediately locates their computerized medical records. Experts say the system helps avoid medical errors and mistaken identity. It also facilitates the transfer of records between doctors.

The clinic purchased the iris scanners in 2008 and fully integrated them into their system late last year.
