BROOKLYN - One Brooklyn hospital has received a failing grade when it comes to the safety of its patients.

Brookdale Hospital was hit with an "F" from the Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel of medical experts, which assigns grades twice a year to more than 2,500 hospitals nationwide.

Brookdale not only received an "F" in this latest round of grading, but it also received the failing score in the fall and last spring. The negative scores included things such as hand washing and problems during surgery. In addition, the hospital received negative scores on the number of qualified nurses.

But the study didn't turn up all negative for Brookdale. The hospital got high scores when it came to working together to prevent error.

A hospital spokesperson says that the grade does not accurately reflect the conditions at the hospital and the significant progress it has made over the past couple of years. It added that the panel relies on data from as far back as 2010.
