Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech
FORT GREENE - The 28th Annual Brooklyn tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left no empty seats inside of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
A Christian chorus kicked off the ceremony, which was lead by new Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
Event organizers say over the years, this celebration has evolved into the largest gathering in New York City to honor the civil rights activist. Mayor Bill de Blasio was also in attendance.

Hundreds filled the streets outside BAM to wait for the event. Well-known political activist and professor Angela Davis was the keynote speaker.
Davis spoke about how Dr. King should not be remembered as a single person, but as a symbol for all who weren't afraid to stand up and struggle for freedom.
Though the day was dedicated to remember Dr. King, this year's event was also dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela.
