BROOKLYN - A new parking area for bikes and outdoor artwork was unveiled in front of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

The mural, which stands 20 feet wide and 24 feet high, was created by Brooklyn-based artist Kaws. He is known for creating the new “moonman” for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

The goal of the project was to bring culture and artwork to an area that had been abandoned for years.

Organizers say they also wanted to add a safe place for the growing population of bikers to park. They say more mural installations by local artists are in the works.
