BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel has been officially renamed as the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel in honor of the late New York governor who died last year.

Carey was a Brooklyn resident who was credited with rescuing New York during the fiscal crisis in the 1970s.

Mayor Bloomberg, MTA officials and Carey's relatives attended the renaming ceremony today.
