BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Bike Patrol has shut down after the organizer of the service, Jay Ruiz, suffered a heart attack.

The Brooklyn Bike Patrol was designed to offer women volunteer escorts for safety purposes as they traveled home late at night from various subway stations.

Ruiz said on his Facebook page that he is sorry to al of the women who depended on the service, and he reminded them to always be aware and alert.
