BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is celebrating its centennial with games, activities and garden-themed parties.

The garden held a 1910 vintage-themed cocktail party where attendees were encouraged to dress in vintage clothes, play croquet and enjoyed hor d'oeuvres from the era.

A century ago, the founders transformed a city ash heap into a botanic garden in the heart of the borough. Organizers say the garden has been a vibrant place for education, research, world-class horticulture and sanctuary for 100 years.

As part of the celebration, it will officially open the first new garden in 50 years - the relocated and newly configured herb garden.
