BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Bridge, one of the oldest suspension bridges in the world, opened to the public 127 years ago today.

The bridge, one of Brooklyn's most recognizable treasures, stands 135 feet above the East River and spans about 6,000 feet.

The bridge opened in 1883.
