BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Some business owners from Bedford-Stuyvesant are having a hard time believing the economy will improve any time soon.

According to business owners, people in the neighborhood just aren?t consuming like they used to.

?Before, the people would buy more?and spend more,? Suresh Kumar, owner of Barias Gold & Diamonds, says. ?But now they just try to hold onto their money.?

Shops in the business gateway district at Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street showed News 12 Brooklyn empty shelves and empty stores. If fewer people shop, they say, fewer items are ordered to stock the shelves.

S & S Liquors says its business is down 20 percent and that waiting around for customers may eventually lead to cutting staff it can?t afford to pay.
