BROOKLYN - It's back to school for thousands of kids within the Brooklyn Catholic school system.

The Brooklyn Diocese posted a photo of the opening liturgy on its Facebook page to pray for a successful year of learning ahead of the big day.

Some Catholic schools have implemented changes this year, including Saint Jerome School in East Flatbush, which is now named Saint Jerome Catholic Academy.

Saint Jerome's is one of 10 institutions that has switched to an academy model, meaning it has a board of directors, as well as parish leadership managing the school and its curriculum.

New York City public school students have a little bit more time to stretch out their summers. They'll face first-day jitters on Monday.
