Brooklyn celebrates Jewish holiday of Purim

The holiday teaches the importance of goodwill and freedom. (2/24/13)

BROOKLYN - Jewish Brooklyn residents celebrated Purim today, a celebration of freedom.

Costume parties celebrating Purim were held at schools and synagogues throughout the borough. Goodwill is also practiced, with donations made to charity.

Purim is based on the Book of Esther, in which Queen Esther saved the Jews.
